Emerson DeltaV DCS Batch Training

COURSE OVERVIEW

What is the difference between Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) training and Distributed Control System (DCS) training?
Thirty years ago, DCS systems were primarily used for controlling large chemical plants and refineries, while PLCs were typically used for smaller, more discrete control tasks such as operating compressors or turbines. However, due to advancements in computer technology over the past three decades, the distinction between DCS and PLC systems has diminished significantly. Despite this, major DCS vendors continue to sell their systems to large chemical industries because of their extensive capabilities and features.

For students pursuing a career as an automation engineer, it is possible to begin with either PLC or DCS training, but soon they will need to understand both. The choice between PLC and DCS often depends on the student's first job or career direction, as these systems may be used in different environments. Even if you learn DCS, identifying which specific DCS expertise is most in-demand can be challenging. We recommend speaking with our career counselor (free of charge) to determine which path is right for you. Below, we provide detailed information about our Emerson DeltaV Batch Training.

Course Overview: In this course, you will learn to design and program the Emerson DeltaV Batch system using various programming tools. Whether you have prior experience with DeltaV or not, this course will help you deepen and expand your knowledge. We will tailor the training to fit your current understanding and desired learning outcomes.

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

  • Specify the system requirements for a new pharmaceutical plant or manufacturing facility.

  • Design the network architecture for the plant's control system.

  • Install and configure programs on a new DeltaV system.

  • Program control logic based on the functional narrative of the process.

  • Perform functional tests on the system to ensure it meets the design specifications.

  • Design and implement Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).

  • Verify communication with peripheral systems using advanced communication protocols like Modbus and OPC.

  • Commission the DCS in a test environment.

  • Successfully hand over the final system to the operations team for production use.

COURSE OBJECTIVESExample Modules Covered in This Training:

  1. DCS Functions in the Pharmaceutical Industry

  2. Main Components of a DCS (Distributed Control System)

  3. DCS Architecture

  4. Control Loop Fundamentals and PID Control Block

  5. Integrated Self-Sufficient Controllers (Analog Loops)

  6. Modern Digital Control Loops (Advanced PID Controllers)

  7. DCS Electrical Fundamentals: Power Requirements

  8. UPS Systems for DCS Controllers

  9. How to Choose Between DCS and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)

  10. Overview of Emerson DeltaV DCS/SIS

  11. Software Components of Emerson DeltaV Batch programs

  12. DCS Loop Diagrams: Typical Examples

  13. GA/IA Cabinet: Typical Layout

  14. Emerson DeltaV DCS/SIS Cabinet Architecture

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

Excel Automation Solutions Distributed Control System (DCS) Training Program Includes the Following Training Modes:

  1. Classroom and Virtual Lectures

  2. Advanced Topics: Seminars and Presentations

  3. Technical Group Discussions

  4. Class Assignments

  5. Industrial Case Studies and Functional Training Exercises

Our training program ensures that students gain hands-on experience from day one. We train them to download configurations to a real DCS system from the very first class, allowing them to practically apply their knowledge and deepen their understanding throughout the course.

ORGANISATIONAL BENEFITS

Employees of industries who attend DCS training at Excel Automation Solutions will benefit in the following ways:

  1. Gain In-depth Knowledge of Their Plant's DCS
Understand the specific DCS used in their plant, which serves as the backbone of operations. Employees will be able to contribute immediately after training to enhance productivity, efficiency, and reliability.

  2. Be Part of DCS Upgrade and Expansion Decisions
Play an active role in the steering committee responsible for deciding on DCS upgrades and expansions.

  3. Train Colleagues Who Could Not Attend
Gain the expertise to train other personnel who were unable to attend the training.

  4. Participate in New Automation Projects
Contribute to new projects by providing expertise in specifying DCS requirements, participating in vendor meetings, evaluating multiple proposals from different vendors, and assisting with automation project commissioning.

PERSONAL BENEFITS

For individuals, our goal is for this training to be a life-changing step.

  • Understand the Operating Principles of various sensors and transducers used in Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

  • Review the Construction and Operation of key components of Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

  • Evaluate and Select the Most Appropriate Sensor Technology for a specific Distributed Control System (DCS).

  • Design, Build, and Test systems based on given specifications for Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Batch Program..

  • Identify the Key Components and Features of a Distributed Control System (DCS) Batch programming.

  • Optimize Control Systems using relevant software tools within Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
